Overview
Colossal Arena (Survival Arena) is a browser game with solo, online co-op and PvP modes. I wrote the netcode myself: a fixed-tick authoritative server and a binary delta protocol, plus a client that predicts and reconciles so the game stays responsive on real-world connections.
What I built
- 01Server-authoritative engine on a fixed 20Hz tick with a buffered input queue, running combat, AI, physics and progression across four game modes.
- 02Custom binary delta compression (entity-level diffs, keyframes, dirty tracking, quantized MessagePack) that cut per-tick bandwidth by 80% compared with naive JSON.
- 03Babylon.js client with snapshot interpolation and client-side prediction, plus server reconciliation and anti-cheat position validation.
- 04Multi-channel room manager with lobbies, class selection, map voting, live friend presence and seamless mid-game reconnection.
- 05Seeded-PRNG procedural map generator for biome arenas across five layout styles, with a validator that guarantees reachability and repairs invalid maps.
